The Center For
Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery
Doctor Wesley King
Dr. King is recognized both nationally and internationally in the fields of minimally invasive, endoscopic, pituitary, and skull base neurosurgery. He has one of the largest experiences using “key hole” approaches to treat a wide range of brain disorders including pituitary adenomas, meningiomas, gliomas, acoustic neuromas, trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm, intracranial aneurysms, peripheral nerve disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome, and Chiari Malformations. As one of the original pionees of endoscopic neurosurgery he has championed innovative, less invasive techniques since the early 1990’s, techniques that he currently teaches to other neurosurgeons. Dr. King also is credentialed in Gamma Knife Radiosurgery which he regularly performs.
Dr. King has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. His textbook on Endoscopy of the Central and Peripheral Nervous system was one of the first books in print on this topic and laid the groundwork for a new, at the time, exciting subspecialty of neurosurgery. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and is an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) and the International Society of Pituitary Surgeons.
Dr. King was born and raised in Los Angeles. He matriculated at Harvard University, majoring in Biochemistry before completing medical school at Johns Hopkins. He completed his neurosurgery residency at UCLA where he stayed on faculty until 1995 when he joined the neurosurgery department at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York. In 1992 he trained as a fellow at Nordstadt Hospital in Hannover Germany under Dr. Madjid Samii, one of the world’s experts in skull base and acoustic neuroma surgery. Dr. King relocated back to Los Angeles in 2004 where he continues his focus on minimally invasive surgical techniques.
